Aranda is a tidy under-story plant for small trees and shrubs, and looks great as a border plant. Aranda is best suited to maintained gardens where it can receive some maintenance throughout the year such as watering during dry summers and annual fertilizing.

Dwarf, compact, clumping Dianella Smooth glossy, deep green, gently arching

Flowers and Fruit

Spring & Summer with blue star-shaped flowers held slightly above the foliage followed by purple berries. These berries are edible.

Aspect

Full sun (if irrigated) and up to 60% shade. In coastal climates Aranda thrives when given protection from extreme winds. Inland climates Aranda benefits from watering during extreme dry summer weather and in winter give protection from heavy frost.

Soil Type

Performs exceptionally well in improved garden soils, but will tolerate sandy loam, clay loam and free draining clay soils. Caution; Aranda does not like water logged soils.

Maintenance

Trim back foliage every 2-3 years, if needed. Apply controlled release fertilizer after trimming to encourage fresh re-growth.

Mulch Type

Aranda has no problem with any mulch type. When re-mulching gardens beds avoid placing mulch hard up against the foliage as this can cause crown rotting.
