Landscape value

Dianella 'Cassa Blue' is perfect for specimen plantings, borders and brilliant as a pot specimen – it appears to thrive on neglect, needing very little watering. Habit

Upright, single clumps with eye catching blue foliage year round.

Flowers and Fruit

Spring & Summer with prolific baby blue flowers that are held high above the foliage. Flowers for extended periods followed by purple berries.

Aspect

Full sun & up to 50% partial shade. Great in inland climates, drought tolerant and frost hardy to -10º. Thrives in low humidity and low rainfall areas. In coastal aspects, protect from strong winds and avoid over planting. Cassa Blue needs good air circulation to prevent crown rot.

Soil Type

Sandy loam and free draining clay loam soils essential. Best planted at the high point in the landscape where water will drain or shed away quickly without pooling for any length of time.

Maintenance

Every 2 to 3 years remove older foliage to make room for the new foliage from the basal clump. Fertilize with slow release fertilizer annually and be careful when re-mulching and remember to not over water.

Mulch Type

Gravel mulch is ideal as it keeps the crown of the plants dry. Avoid organic mulch as it holds moisture. In humid coastal areas over watering and thick organic mulch may cause root rot.
