Dietes bicolor or 'Peacock Flower' is an evergreen, rhizomatous perennial grown for its attractive yellow iris-like flowers. Dietes has erect, lime green, sword shaped leaves which form in large clumps of foliage that can be planted as specimens, large swards of foliage and low growing informal hedges.

Flowers and Fruit

Flowers are a pale yellow, with each of the larger 3 petals having a central brown spot. Dietes flowers continuously over a long periods in spring and summer.

Aspect

Best in full sun to part shade. They are moderately frost hardy, but for best results plant in frost free aspects.

Soil Type

Prefers fertile, well drained soils that do not dry out too quickly over summer.

Maintenance

Trim back annually (optional) to 200mm above ground, in early spring. Fertilize after trimming and water well to encourage fresh re-growth.

Mulch Type

Any well composted mulch type will keep soil moisture high during dry times
