Imperata cylindrica or commonly known as Blady Grass has spreading rhizomes which gives it the ability to fill in gaps producing a complete ground cover. The foliage is a feature, khaki green during the year with red tones over winter.

Flowers and Fruit

Flushes of flowers during the year with the main period being Spring & Summer. Flowers are white with white fluffy seed heads following.

Aspect

Imperata grows from full sun to 50% shade, suited to protected coastal aspects and inland climates. Imperata is cold tolerant to –10ºC, but will get frost burn, to be replaced with new spring growth.

Sandy loam through to clays.
