Pennisetum alopecuroides 'Pennstripe’, is the first variegated Australian native grass available. Pennstripe was bred from Pennisetum ‘Nafray’ and is equally tough compared to common varieties. The variegated fine foliage will provide a highlight feature, a perfect contrast to other green plants. Pennstripe is great for Golf Courses, public gardens and domestic gardens where it can be maintained annually to bring out its true form and beauty.

Flowers and Fruit
Summer to autumn with feathery cream-purple tinged flowers. To date it has produced no viable seed making it safe for our bush land.
Aspect
Grows in full sun to 50% shade but best in full sun to bring out the variegated foliage colour. Protected coastal aspects. It will grow inland, the foliage will brown off under frost and re-shoot again in spring.
Soil Type
Reasonably fertile soil best; loam, clay loam, clay soils types. Suited to moist to wet soils.
Maintenance
Trim back foliage annually in spring by 2/3 to remove last season’s spent foliage. Fertilize with slow release fertilizer after trimming. Watering over extremely hot summers will benefit its overall appearance, best in mulched garden beds.
