Shara Lomandra fluviatilis ‘ABU7’

Shara is a new fine leafed Lomandra with exceptional Phytophthora resistance. Shara looks like a cross between Wingarra and Tanika with its green / bluish foliage and its height halfway between the two. Shara will be a great alternative to the popular Tanika in humid climates like the North Coast NSW and Queensland. It will have great applications on road sides, commercial garden spaces, public gardens and residential gardens.

Fine greenish blue, arching to weeping foliage
Flowers and Fruit
Spring & Summer with masses of yellow to cream flowers held above the foliage. Flowers are perfumed.
Aspect
Shara will grow in full sun and in up to 50% shade, it is also suited to protected coastal conditions. Shara will tolerate poorly drained soils, but not permanently wet soils. Coastal humidity isn’t a problem for this plant and it will perform well with the high summer rainfall that the N.C. and S.E.Queensland receives. Shara grows in inland climates and while it has high drought tolerance it may need watering in extreme dry inland summers. Stays evergreen in temperatures to –5ºC.
Soil Type
Wide ranging— from loam, clay loam, to free draining clays. Shara can tolerant short term water logging. Phytophthora resistant.
Maintenance
Trim back foliage to 200mm above the ground every 3 to 5 years, if needed, to remove older foliage. Use a slow release fertilizer after trimming to encourage fresh re-growth.
