Silvertyne is subtle variegated Lomandra that exhibits a silvery sheen to the foliage. Silvertyne is a selection developed by Bluedale after many years of testing and breeding. Its parentage is a select form of Lomandra longifolia that Bluedale grows for its tolerance of humid coastal climates and superior performance in the landscape. Silvertyne is a very hardy plant that has excellent drought tolerance with low maintenance requirements, ideal for adding that highlight to public and domestic dryland gardens.

Aspect

Silvertyne will grow in full sun and in up to 50% shade and is suited to protected coastal conditions. Coastal humidity poses no problems for this Lomandra variety. Silvertyne will thrive in inland climates and stay evergreen in frost and cold to –10ºC.

Soil Type

Wide range of soil types, from sandy loam, clay loam and free draining light clay

Maintenance

Trim back foliage to 200 to 400mm above the ground every 3 to 5 years, if needed, to refresh and remove older foliage. Fertilize with slow release fertilizer after trimming to encourage fresh re-growth. Be careful when re-mulching and don’t over water.

Mulch Type

Use coarse grade mulch for great results. Never mulch hard up against the base of the plant and take care when re-mulching over summer.
