NAFRAY® Pennisetum alopecuroides 'PA300'

Pennisetum alopecuroides ‘Nafray’ is a mid sized compact Pennisetum with compact, fine green foliage. Nafray is an ideal plant for ornamental landscaping, both domestic and commercial. Best planted in mulched garden beds with some occasional watering during extreme hot weather. Planted in combination with evergreen Strappy Leafed Plants, it will provide good foliage contrast. Over the past few years we have seen projects where this weed has been supplied to unsuspecting landscapers as the native form. Where possible ask your landscape contractors to source their plants from a reliable source. Using ‘Nafray’ will ensure you get the real thing, not the noxious weed.

Tussuck with compact, fine green foliage
H: 700—900mm tall W: 800—1m wide
Summer through to late Autumn with prolific sprays of cream to purple tinged feathery flowers.
Nafray will grow from full sun to 50% shade. It is best suited to protected coastal aspects and best protected from hot, drying, westerly winds. Nafray will grow in inland climates but will burn off under frost with the foliage re-shooting again in Spring.
Soil Type
Loam, clay loam and light clay soils. Nafray will grow in moist to wet soils.
Trim back to 200mm above ground, in early spring, every 1—2 years to remove the old foliage and spent flowers. Fertilize with a controlled release fertilizer after trimming and water well to encourage fresh re-growth.
