Flowering
From mid spring to autumn it displays an eye catching, burgundy to cream foxtail like flower above the foliage.
Aspect
Full sun position is best to bring out the rich foliage colour, but it can be grown in part shade where it will tend to be more open. Will tolerate humidity and heat and is best suited to protected coastal aspects. Rubrum will grow in inland climates but will burn off under frost with the foliage re-shooting again in Spring.
Soil Type
best in fertile loams to clay loam and light clay soils. Rubrum will grow in moist free draining soils.
Maintenance
Trim back to 200 to 400mm above ground, in early spring annually to remove last season foliage and spent flowers. Fertilize with a controlled release fertilizer after trimming and water well to encourage fresh re-growth.
